After a quite handful of journey, we have decided to close our doors and move on with our life.

As the ROAM Shacho, we are saying goodbye to all our friends and sponsors for supporting us all this while and believed in our quest to make downhill a better and known sports.

For nearly 3 years we have ventured our life into DH racing and grooming young riders. Life commitment always get in our way, therefore we have decided to shut down ROAM forever.

ROAM is dead, Long Live ROAM!!!!!!

Hola,
After 10 years active in the sport competitively and busy in organizing events, I'm retiring from competing in any DH races. I'll be focusing on building downhill and fun track in Kiara and perhaps other places as well.

My kind of riding is more towards having fun with no stress of training or practicing for races. I'll be ripping DH courses all over Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Thank you to all my personal sponsors - Dirtworks Hardwear, Kali Protectives and Sticker Station. Thank you for the support you have extended to me. Thank you to all ROAMers for supporting me and the ROAM ForeFathers for being there for me. Thank you to all my friends all over the world.

Round 2 of MDHSS is coming in HOT. Us ROAMers are taking a breather for a short while before continuing with the 2nd battle for 2011. RedRide and UB are recuperating from their injury while others are getting ready for the event.

Will Master Yamm able to claim Master B championship? Will Aim dominate this event? Will AC and Munawar getting better results? Will Ameer and Sloan able to challenge them? Is Bossman able to compete with RRD boys? Will RedRide and UB recover soon enough to compete and claim the podium?

So many questions raised, yet the answers will be known after the final run on 30th April 2011. Stay tuned.

Please pray for the speedy recovery of RedRide, UB, Roslee 951, Wan Panjang, Yazid Zidane and racers who fell in the Battle of Tokun. (God speed on them)

ROAMers down and helluva race!

The 2011 Tokun Rockstar DH Challenge took a toll on UB - Sacho and RedRide. Both of us got busted left knee. I got it first during practice and Red got it during final run. Master Yamm took 5th even with a puncture. Pok Aing suffered same fate as Master Yamm took 4th in Men Elite. Meanwhile our young gunner AC, finish 3rd in Men Expert cat. Our Hot Guy (Munawar), managed to secure 5th in Men Expert category.

ROAM friend and teammates in FakawiBanshee - Adam, he took the championship in Men Elite but loss a mere 3 seconds to Agung (17 year old kid from Polygon Factory Team - Indonesia) that denied him from claiming the overall champion of the event.

The ROAMers are preparing for the 2nd battle of MDHSS that will be on 30 April, hopefully Red and I will recover and able to compete in this race.

The Beginning....

Next week will be the opening race for 2011 Malaysian Downhill Super Series better known as MDHSS. From professional to hobbyist racers from all over Malaysia will be migrating north of Malaysian peninsular to compete in the battle of Tokun. Joining the event also racers from neighboring countries such as Singapore and Indonesian perhaps Thais as well. Tokun Rockstar MTB Challenge 2011 will be held on Apr 2-3 with XC uphill road race on Saturday and the main event (Downhill) will on Sunday.

This year MDHSS race categories have been inserted with 3 new category. Men Master B (40 years & above), Women Open and Men Hardtail. 6 events have been confirmed for 2011 MDHSS. We will go to each event and supporting the 2nd year of MDHSS. For ROAM, two new ROAMers - Nine and Munawar, they are really looking forward to compete to start a new chapter racing under ROAM colors.

Finished 2nd in Petaling Jaya DH Challenge March 20, 2011 really got RedRide spirit high. He lost by a mere 1 second to FlyFin in the final run. Gunning for podium in Expert category for Malaysian DH Super Series starting this April, RedRide is back in the scene with a heavy luggage of experience to take down the expert riders favorites for 2011. 2011 will be his last Expert category race in MDHSS as he said that his chronological and psychological age is catching up.

His team mate Adam Ahmed, rode to victory in the Men Open final run beating Selangor's top gunners Fareez and Sharilhaizat. AC and new ROAMer Munawar finished 6th & 4th in Men under 21. Last year MDHSS Men Junior overall champion, Low Yee Pin settled with 5th place finishing.

Our specialist in Master B - Master Yamm, confirmed the voice of riders to claim the Master B championship. Riding his new 2011 Intense M9, he rode flawlessly but crashed in the last hip jump. Even with the crash, his time was ahead of his fellow competitors by 19 seconds.

Yes, good news indeed. Our very own DH interceptor and XC Fighter, Pok Aing has joined FakawiBanshee Team and will be riding Banshee bike for DH in 2011 race season. He also joined ARUS TRM XC Team and will be riding Polygon Bikes with Kali Protective helmets. Congrats Pok Aing.....

Another riding session

Had an awesome riding session yesterday at cilegon (where else) despite some minor technical failures.. MAHAKA team brought their best rigs and riders..

Had a run on the Mondraker, didnt quite like it though. Its very stable, paddles really well but handling is a bit unfriendly for the slower techy stuff, and it just didnt want to lean (like the legend that is). Well here are some riding shots :

Sadly a rider broke his back ribs and fractured his back bone on his 1st ride down (Anka, red M9), speed recovery buddy.

Next week we are planning to ride in Bandung - cikole, jayagiri and few other trails I've never tried. Hope to have more pictures

Kiara New Section - "Bad Idea" for Round 4 of 2011 MDHSS

ROAM builders have been busy working on the new section for Round 4 of 2011 MDHSS @ Bukit Kiara. The race date will be on 24th July 2011 and there are rumors that the event it will be named A.M.O.K (Absolute Madness of Kiara). The new section is called "Bad Idea" as it is really a bad idea due to the gnarly exit and the speed gained.

We began working on it since early Jan 2011. With the help of fellow riders like Tareh, Yu Bing, Munawar, Ariff Geja and Denys Commie, we managed to 80% completed it. We will add in gap jumps on it to make it more interesting. Our advise is that please don't ride it yet as it still fresh and let the soil sink in and packed up first. We also monitoring the water flows of the area for lesser maintenance in the future.

Sections of Slippery Seniorita, Screaming Banshee, Off Camber and Scary Shit will be widened for safety reason. For Screaming Banshee and Scary Shit, we will create an alternate safer line to accommodate other riders skill level. For Elite and Expert category, your race line will be tougher and gnarlier to push you limits.

The rest of the race track after Scary Shit wont be changed much and just need little maintenance to do. The trail work will be completed by mid or end February, so if you got the chance to ride @ Kiara, do come and try it. We are sure that you gonna love it, hate it or conquer it. Please wear proper and adequate protective clothing when you ride there.

To bad Red, UB and Pok Aing cant go to compete tomorrow Saturday 22 Jan 2011. It will be our first battle though, but due to some circumstances is not happening for us. Good luck to those compete and we wish for more RedBull event to come.

ROAM will compete in this event with Pok Aing in the Elite cat, UB, RedRide and AC in Open Cat. An event that can't be missed out and the first ever a competition for ROAMers in Singapore. We are so looking forward for it.

Head Honcho's - Rebel Yell & Rebel Gal

These two are Head Honcho latest downhill bike and AM hardtail. Thanks to all ROAMers for their contribution in parts and components. This story is all about the newly assembled Rebel Yell. It took me just 1 week to get accustomed to bike behavior. The handling is super nice. The flat bars up front improved my cornering plus keeping it low in the front. Weight is 19.5kg due to some heavy duty parts. Some of the parts as you will view it later at the bottom, its all aged and outdated. But if its still do the job accordingly, don't change it. (Old saying, if it ain't broken, don't fix it).

The 2007 Boxxer World Cup does it job perfectly, i'm coming from an old 2005 Boxxer Race (Klang River Boxxer-my fellow ROAMers called it-hehehehe). The rear travel felt bottomless during big drops and gnarly spot. Long wheelbase improved traction and stability during rough spot action and in high speed condition. The long top tube give more space and tight cockpit is not my cup of tea.

I called this bike Mario (super mario bros) as it needs to pop in rough section. For me, its not build to be a Pacman. But popping around is fun, lets you know that you are having fun.

Slight change of plan - my Supreme Racing

After a year riding it, eventually I feel something is funny about the bike and not as good anymore.. And honestly I hated the color.. so I decided to check the linkage and all bearings, mm and to get rid of the color too.

this bike has been ridden more than 100 runs in mud... logically its dying, something needs to be done.

Main pivot bearings are practically dead, cannot be moved by fingers at all. Linkage bearings are usable but need replacement too. BB's are rough and will be replaced last (the whole BB, probably HOPE). Headset is okay, just topped up the grease and filled the dirty bearing balls.

So, no riding on this bike for the next 2 weeks.. these bearings and some parts need replacement, the best solution is the machining shop.

Guys, I'll be joining any riding activities on my hardtail just for the sake of riding.. Owh yea supreme racing might have a new fork and rims - after the pain remover job, raw

7 Oct 2007 -A unity of harmonic and congruent downhill riders in Malaysia which led to the inception of Riders On A Mission better known as R.O.A.M. We have survived 3 years and looking forward for more.

To the ForeFathers (UB, RedRide, Yamm, Amad, Fandi & Ramesh), we've done a great job. To all seniors (FA and Elde) and Juniors (Ameer, AC, Haris, Jr. and Aim), you lot made us very very proud.... Keep on ROAMing yeah.

Penang' s own Ian Chin is undoubtedly the King of Erskine. Former Malaysian national cyclist, Ian's final run clocked the fastest time and champ the Men Expert category. Alor Star Street Bike group as usual coloring the event with their own authentic style. All the spectators were thrilled with the event and thank you to PDH organizers and sponsors for making it comes true.

Now the scope locked news is: 3 ROAMers podium in the Men Expert category. Ameer was second, Red was fourth and AC was fifth. It was a classic battle between the ForeFather and the Padawan. Friendly rivalry is always good to motivate the riders to push the envelope further. To Yamm, Sloan and Elde, keep on pushing it yeah.

1 ROAMer endo-ed and crashed last nite at Shah Alam Bike Park. It was Fast Lee or FA. Suspected broken right collarbone. Now at Prince Court KL for undergoing medical treatment.

RedRide said it was a freak accident just like me last year there too...

He is the champion of Men Elite category in a very stiff and steep competition with Malaysian, Indonesian, Singaporean, Thailand and Australian aces. Thank you for your support for Malaysian DH Super Series (MDHSS). The 3rd installment, the Banshee Kiara Rage, is just around the corner.

Please take note:
24 July 2010 - Registration, race form & fee submission (RM75). Race form can be DOWNLOADED HERE (.pdf document). All Junior riders must get their parent/guardian consent signature on the form when signing up!
Registration booth will be at Taman Lembah Kiara Car Park and open from 12pm-4pm.

We will not entertain any last minute registration after 4pm or on Sunday (race day) morning.

Please use the old race plate in Bukit Cermin DH Challenge or should you have lost it you will get a new one with RM5 fee.

We will be using Race Boy RFID (timing device) and a refundable deposit of RM50 is required during installation on Sunday (race day)
The RM50 will be refunded once the RFID is returned to Race Boy. RFID installation will start at 7am on Sunday

racers and visitors please note: NO VEHICLES ARE ALLOWED TO BE PARKED IN THE TAMAN. THANK YOU.

Master Yamm qualified 1st for Men DH Master C on Saturday. But in final run on Sunday, due to slippery track and twice washed out, he finished 6th.
But our Master Yamm is still gunning for that track that cost him dearly in 2009 where he had 2 nasty crashes during seeding and final run. Next year and next time yeah Master Yamm, u'll get it the championship.

We will wait for his race report. He'll back tomorrow (tuesday May 1, 2010).

Next race for UKDI will be in Bali 18 July 2010. But the ROAMers are competing in Phuket 1st on July 4th.

Banshee Kiara DH Rage will be on 24-25 July 2010. So July is a busy month.

I was over whelmed off seeing the track for the first time. My first reaction was WOW!

Walked the track few times, then got riding with a couple (a lot hehehe ) of run just to get the feel for the track. Afternoon came around saw few riders getting in to it, I was nervous just looking and studying their lines. Their gates were fast. When it got to

practice with other riders I was nervous/excited coz I wanted to see where I stand in fitness/performance wise.

2^nd day until qualifying day was like morning session and afternoon session. Practice summary:- I cleared most of the basic jumps. The more technical jumps I had to get some guidance from local riders.

Jumping to Qualifying day (Friday 14^th May) 9am...I was 6^th person to go according to race numbers. Over all my run was ok. Didn’t expert a fast time, but I qualified 15^th out of 20 riders (that advance to racing) with the time of 59.8sec.

Race day…I was in moto no.3 to start, managed to do 3heats then I got knocked. Racing was full of pushing and shoving but. In the end I ended in 10^th B mens.

Saturday evening was Dual Slalom, with a simple track with was fun…u just had to pedal every you could. Got 7^th in B Mens. - ELDE

top 20 open category 'faster' than all elite - silly mistake
all light were out at 1030pm

Last night was the worst event most of us ever competed in. For rp150 000 fee we expected to have fun on the no-elevation-3 climbs course. But for some reason and non smooth operation, the seeding results were used as final result.

I competed in elite with 5 others. And after taking the seeding result I placed last with 1min18sec, winner is Kamra with 50 secs!! bloody fast on a full DH bike.

Looks like Peaty has given the throne of Lisboa to Paulo Domingues, 30 years old amateur. “I still can not believe that I beat the best athletes of the World, I’m still incredulous! I actually came here to fight for the title of the best Portuguese rider and leave the place by the big door, it seems like a dream. I feel so happy, because I am an amateur and they are professional”. Amarelo (Team Biciplus Sportcity/CM Sesimbra), as is known in the middle of mountain biking, completed the thousand meters of the track in 1:46.122 minutes. The podium was completed, respectively, with the Slovak Filip Polka (MS Evil Racing) and South African Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate).

The month of March had been super hot with average of 37 degree celcius, but that don’t stop ROAMers and also riders from our region, inclusive Singapore to participate in this race. This will be the last race held in bukit cermin, putra height. Due to human greedy, the place will be chop off to build some expensive bungalow area. Good bye to our training ground. The track had been build nicely by BCriders where it consists of set of jumps, wall rides, drops, tabletops, berms, rock gardens and so forth. Pushed off from home at 5am, arrived Dago, Bandung at 8 something.. Waited to be fetched by EWA of Aldomaru in his Ranger pickup. On the Way up to Lembang we had to 'rescue' a broken down pickup driven by another rider.

ROAM Fathers has agreed to induct him in even though he is new to our fraternity but he is our ROAM Southern HeadMan. Therefore with his passion in MTB and the directions that he has it will be an advantage for us. Lets make Johor & Melaka our roaming homeground too. Our foundation and based in Malaysia are strong already.

I'm proud to announce our young ROAMer, Pak Aim (1st from right) finished 3rd in Men Junior DH in ACC last saturday.
He won the lottery of RM600 from ROAM courtesy of Ramesh(Team Element) & ForeFather Yamm.
Jr. Stanley, competing in Men Elite finished 6th. Crashed in final run.
We all are proud of the good results and we hope he and stan will get better results in SEA Games 2009 at Laos.

Its been 2 years already fellow ROAMers. Since on 7 Oct 2007, 3 old fools and 1 semi old fool started this fraternity. No we have about 18 roamers yah.... look what we have achieved and where we are now...
We r still crawling in the MTB scene but we will strive further to ensure people of Malaysia ride MTB not only DH but other types as well.

Congratulations to our very own Sloan for locking the deal with cycleACTIVE (SSR). CycleACTIVE is a local clothing brand and carrying SSR (Indonesia) clothing for Malaysia.
So he will be competing under RRD - Cycle Active for remaining of 2009 season and start strong for 2010 calendar. So now, the competition is getting hotter... I like....

The boys from the north will be holding a race sometime before the Specialized DH Champs in Indonesia.

A new and improved track said to have little or no pedaling (my kinda track!). Diggers were up there to man up the jumps. the boys from PDH really put in some serious time and effort to make this race happening. Props to the boys of PDH!
